Monoprinting workshops

£120.00

A monoprint simply means a print that is unique, 1 of 1. There are a huge number of ways in which to make them. Essentially the image is made with ink on a perspex or metal plate and then transferred to paper using pressure, a roller or a press.

One day monoprinting workshops, 10am-4pm. All levels welcome, materials provided.

Hands on tuition, covering various ways of creating monoprints, and working with ‘ghost’ images (from the previous print) to create monotypes in series. (A monotype is still a unique print, but shares elements from other prints to create images in series)

Number of people: minimum 6, maximum 8. Age 18+

3 First Cross Road, Twickenham TW2 5QA

(Message me if you want to be notified of new dates or to be added to a waitlist for a fully booked course, or if you want to create a private workshop booking with friends or colleagues here)

Intent for the day (draft, subject to tweaks):

Guided experiments in the various ways of creating a monoprint:

  • Trace monoprinting: The plate is inked and a piece of paper is placed over the top. An image is then created by drawing on the back to transfer the image.

  • Subtractive method: An image is created by removing ink from a pre-inked plate to create an image using various tools (solvents, brushes, cotton buds, rags etc)

  • Additive method: The image is created with ink on the plate using brushes, rollers etc

  • Working with ‘ghost prints’: Working on top of the remaining (much paler) ink that remains on the plate as a base for new images that can work in series

  • Layering to build up colours and composition

  • Masking as a means to create shapes and build compositions and texture

Can I put the lunch I am bringing in the fridge?: Yes!

I’m very much a beginner, is that ok?: Yes that’s absolutely fine. The workshop will give you fun ways to approach working with print, with varied and interesting results, and introduce you to new techniques.

Enrolment deadline: To be sure of a place please book early, but if there is availability you can book up to 2 days prior to the start date. This allows me to ensure I have the materials and set up for everyone. Any closer than that, please message me to check.

Refund policy: The workshop is exchangeable up until 28 days prior to the workshop date if another is available, or can be refunded with a £25 admin fee if you need to cancel. After this date your booking is non-refundable and non-exchangeable. This enables the workshop to go ahead for others.
