This commission (with Fathom Architects) didn’t go ahead in the end, Covid brought the whole project entirely to a halt before work began. The brief had been for two huge oil paintings (approx 3.6 x 2.4m) for a flexible workspace in Kings Cross, with intent to respond to the area and link to the ‘industrial feel’ design concept for the interior. These were my initial studies, playful images made to begin to think about the design of the paintings. The intent had been these studies (and others that would subsequently progress into the painting design) would hang in the meeting spaces to create a story linking to the larger artwork in the open plan areas.

The double exposure photographs are of the gas holder buildings by the canal, iconic to Kings Cross. These images say so much about Kings Cross through time to me - regeneration, industry, motion, design, the clouds mimic steam reminiscent of the early locomotives and industry... images of today that speak for decades.

The more abstract pieces are playful experiments with folded paper and photography. The filter mimics concrete, linking to exposed surfaces in the interior and intent for texture in a painting.

The project never went ahead so all these pieces are available again, as limited editions. archival C-type prints on Fuji Matt paper (Gasholder series) and archival Giclee prints on fine art paper (abstract series). They work best in multiples - a grid or a triptych.
